You will receive a pair of similar 4 1/2” tall beacon glass pitchers. One of the two pitchers has part of the initial label still attached. Both pitchers have the inverted coin dot design and an applied reed clear handle.
ORIGINAL VINTAGE HAND-BLOWN / MOLD-BLOWN BLUE ART GLASS “inverted coin dot” PITCHER WITH LARGE RUFFLED TOP AND APPLIED CLEAR GLASS HANDLE CREATED BY AUGUST HOFBAUER (1882-1968) AT EITHER HIS VINELAND GLASS COMPANY (1931-1958) IN VINELAND, NEW JERSEY OR POSSIBLY DURING THE PERIOD OF TIME WHEN HIS COMPANY WAS FORCIBLY TAKEN OVER AND RENAMED THE BEACON GLASS COMPANY (MID 1940S-1949)!
Each pitcher has what is known as a ‘sand pontil mark’ on the underside bottom created when August Hofbauer tapped down the end of the pontil rod in sand before attaching it to the base of the pitcher. This method of glassblowing allowed for a cleaner break-away of the pitcher from the pontil rod when Hofbauer finished the piece.
